ATLANTA, GA. - With the support of local tourism officials and the Warren County Treasurer’s office, Medalist Sports has taken the first steps to activate a multi-day, mass-participation bicycle experience in Lake George, New York this fall. Randonnée Cycliste – Adirondacks is scheduled to take place Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29, to promote tourism and outdoor recreation for the great Warren County area.
The Warren County Occupancy Tax Committee awarded a grant this month to Medalist Sports, a full-service sports management company based in Georgia, to support Randonnée Cycliste – Adirondacks as a fall event to promote tourism in the Lake George area. The occupancy tax is collected and regulated by the Warren County Treasurer’s office.
Last year, a cycling weekend was held in Lake George in June, which attracted over 600 participants. Close to 66% of the participants traveled more than 90 miles and stayed at least one night in the Lake George area. With the event possibly not happening in 2013, local supporters of the ride reached out to Medalist Sports to build on last year’s success by creating a new cycling event in the region. With a change to September, this new event will showcase the infamous fall foliage of the Adirondacks, expected to draw 20-25% more riders than last year’s event.
Medalist Sports will work closely with the Lake George Chamber of Commerce and Warren County tourism officials throughout the spring to plan this three-day cycling festival with activities for the entire family. A new Web site and schedule of events will be announced the first week of April.
